Corner fittings are the main component and backbone of any ISO type container used for intermodal shipping.
Time: 0:06-0:13
ISO containers and corner fittings are controlled by worldwide standards and specifications. These specifications dictate the dimensions and ratings of the container and corner fittings and state that all lifting and tying down must be done using the corner fittings.
Time: 0:13-0:25
There are four different corner fitting positions: top left, top right, bottom left, and bottom right. Each container has two of each position for a total of eight corner fittings. To reference the positions, you need to be looking at each end of the container.
Time: 0:25-0:32
Corner fittings are very similar in the type of holes they have for securing the container. Top corner fittings have a shield-shaped hole on the front, an oval-shaped hole on the side, and a slot on the top.
Time: 0:32-0:46
Bottom corner fittings have a slot on the bottom but oval-shaped holes on the side and front walls. These differences are important to note because not all connectors are able to interface with both the slots or shield and oval-shaped holes.

Tandemloc corner fittings meet ISO standards and have an American Bureau of Shipping certification, also known as ABS. To get this certification, ABS has gone into the foundry where these corner fittings are made and certified the process incorporated to produce the product. They also certify the chemical and physical analysis of the steel used to ensure that it meets the parameters outlined in ISO 1161.
